Two days ago I took a chance and gave a copy of "Uptown" to one of my bosses, a veterinarian. Out there, on the other side of the fence, it's a little risky revealing oneself to new acquaintances; but no guts, no glory. Today the CD had already made the rounds through 3 of the 4 doctors on staff. One of them spent the afternoon scatting through his appointments. Morrell is here. We fade and transition, but energy can't be destroyed. Body's gone, not Wolf. I miss him and the lost opportunities to create and brainstorm with him. On steel, dobro, guitar, 'bone - he was facile, elegant, innovative, and inspirational. Humble, openminded, conspiratorial and gifted: he was loved. We're the beneficiaries of his legacy. Pass it on.

I am fortunate to have met and spent time on and off the bandstand with Tom. He was the "best of the best". He is truly missed.

Here it is the end of May, and I just found out about Tom. His passing is a tragic loss for Western Swing music, but an even more tragic loss of one of the absolute COOLEST people I've ever met. I first met him at the Legends of Western Swing Music Festival in Wichita Falls back in the late 1990s, when I was covering the event for the WF TIMES RECORD NEWS. And as a longtime musician myself (guitar and pedal steel), his amazing non-pedal pyrotechnics always impressed the hell out of me. Since then, he always made sure I got review copies of his "How The West Was Swung" series for my column, and they always earned my highest rating. He never disappointed. Covering the LWSM Festival won't be the same this year without him - without his tasteful, understated flash; without his easy grin; without the spark of his unique personality. God Bless You, Tom. You won't be forgotten.

Tom Morrell was the best of the best. He inpsired me to play more non-pedal steel guitar. His music has brought me many hours of joy. I hope the Top Hands continue his legacy. May you rest in God's peace old friend. Johnny Cox

We see in Western Swing Monthly that Relaxin' is out now. We will think of him and his music often in our life time. He had the same "feeling" about the music that Bob had. "No straight jackets on the music" Wolf show us GREAT big band type Western Swing Music could still be be put together! Thanks Wolf, we'll never forget...

It was such an honor to be in Ft. Worth this weekend to listen to these musicians play. The music was awesome and we had a wonderful time. I am Renee Wagner's (Morrell) oldest daughter. I only met my grandfather once as a kid. I grew up to be a blues/swing/country lover and I could not have been more amazed at who my grandfather was. It was great to meet/see family I didn't know to well also. Thanks again to Dodo for one of his cowboy hats. It will be proudly displayed in our new home :) -Jennifer

Just a quick funny story to share....Back in the 60`s, after my parents divorced, Tommy and my father shared an apartment together in Oak Cliff. I must have been 6 or 7 years old, when I visited my dad there for the 1st time. I`ll never forget walking up the stairs to the apt. hearing Blood, Sweat, and Tears blarring out of the stereo, opening up the front door and seeing Playboy Centerfold pictures used as wallpaper , literally on every wall in the LIVING ROOM! I think it was just a sign of the times. I`m would imagine some of ya`ll may have known my father since he was a pretty good Steel Player himself....Billy Braddy. God speed Tommy. Say Hi to my Dad!
