I am one of the few western swing guitarist in the Atlanta Georgia area. I have a swing band called Swing South. Vocalist are Bill Adams and Susan Riley. Tommy Dodd on steel, Max Harper on sax, Chuck Nations on fiddle. Bill Cunningham on bass, Steve Vincent on drums and yours truly on guitar. We play as often as possible. Swing is a hard sell here, though most like it when they hear it.

Fantastic shots from the Morrell Family archive of the Wolf from Pup to Alpha. In Photo # 16 the guy in the fanciest suit is Tex Williams. The Legendary Western Swing Bandleader. I'm guessing the guy between him and Tom is Gary Van. I would ask Craig or Mac McCrae about the remaining cats. The band is The Western Starliters
The last photo I'll study a little closer and see if I can name anyone.

On a recent trip to our ranch near Big Spring, Texas, my cousin introduced me to the music of the TimeWarp Tophands. Loved it!!
"How do I get me some more of that??", I said. And here I am. Can't wait for the completion of the website!

I was just perusing the web trying to find some info on Tommy Morrell and Rich O'Brien (Badger). Please don't let Tommy and The Tophands be forgotten.
PS I am a musician and I've been playing music for forty years now and I've faked it many of times on stage flying by the seat of my britches... But I ain't ever (or could) fake any of Tommy and The Tophands stuff. I would've had to politely put my guitar down and enjoy!

With all due respect to Asleep at the Wheel and Ace in the Hole,..and many others.... I think that Tom Morrell and the Time-Warp Top Hands were the best Western swing band in the WORLD!!!!
Morrell plays with such innovation and energy that he has taken Western Swing to new heights and to new jazz lovers like me!
